Teamwork makes sharing custody easier

Children who learn that their parents are divorcing usually have some fear about what's going to happen. It's up to the parents to put those fears to rest so the kids can thrive despite the changes in their life.

When the adults can work as a parenting team after their marriage ends, the children will benefit greatly. There are many ways that you can do this. Finding the ones that work for your situation may take some trial and error.

Only the children matter

Ending a marriage is often a traumatic experience. You can't let those feelings impact what happens with your parenting relationship. Instead, you must focus on being the best parent you can. This will involve working as a team with your co-parent so the kids have everything they need. It's important to focus on matters that directly relate to the safety, health and well-being of the children.

Clarity is critical

You and your ex need to ensure that both of you understand all rules and agreements. This can minimize the chance that there will be a misunderstanding in the future. Your parenting plan's terms should be written in a way that is unambiguous.

Your priority when you're working on how you'll share custody should be getting the parenting plan in order. This provides both adults with the guidelines for raising the children. The kids can enjoy some stability once this is done since they can settle into the new way of life. Having someone on your side who can assist you with getting this done is critical since it must be handled carefully.
